Jean Preston Fine Art

For the past 3 years I have been privileged to be a part of the’Art for Life’ Program created by Dr. Christopher Perkins of the Oncology Center of Fresno.  His idea was to enable cancer patients to be teamed up with an artist (artistic director) so that they could work with the artist in their studio to create

Each year I have had 3 women visit my studio to do a tryptych where each woman works on her own panel to tell the story of her journey through this very difficult illness. The time spent together sharing their experiences has always amazed me to see the resilience that these brave women show. We have tears, laughter and lots of humor and the process turns out to be a beautiful  painting which is always uplifting and full of joy. One of my ladies wrote on her painting, ‘Nothing can steal my joy’.

When all the paintings are turned in from the artists they are hung  in the corridors of the Oncology Center and an Open House is given for families and friends which is attended by several hundred people. The program has been such a success that Dr. Perkins has now started ‘The Art of Life’Cancer Foundation which will enable many more patients to be able to participate in this exceptional experience.

I will be posting the date of the Open House and you will all be very welcome to come and view this truly lovely event.

I will be exhibiting my work for the 3rd year in the Sierra Art Trails Open Studios 11th Annual  Exhibit on the 3rd 4th and 5th October 2014 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This is held in the Beautiful mountain areas leading up to Yosemite National Park and brings visitors from all over the world  to view the work of over 100 artists who take part in this show. Visitors are able to see artists at work  in their studios and view the diverse creations of so many talented artists.

I will also be exhibiting in the Artworks 15th Annual Art Show which will be held at Northwest Church on October 11th 2014 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This art show was established by  a small number of artists who put together an art show in our garden on Van Ness Blvd in Fresno . The show turned out to be a success and subsequently the group decided to name themselves ‘Artworks’ and continue with an annual art show. The number of artists wanting to participate in this show grew rapidly and so  we approached Northwest Church to see if we could use their much larger facility to exhibit our work. This will be the 15th  year in which this show will once more take place and we now have over 50 artists participating and a very large number of visitors who attend the show.
